The End
of Our Solar System-
SAVING THE HUMAN RACE
Poster Contest (2007-08) |
Asteroids and other
disasters can make the Earth inhabitable for some period, but our home planet
will eventually recover. Human race
can wait out these bad times on another place in the solar system.
There will be no recovery of this planet when our own sun becomes a red
giant at some distant future.
We do not know if and when the next asteroid will hit, but we know when our own
sun will destroy this planet.
This, in fact, is a routine event in our galaxy and our turn is sure to come.

THEME: Understanding the End of the Solar System and
Preventing the Extinction of Human Race
Students should research the end of the solar system
issue. Entries must focus on any two of the following topics:
o
The process and the
timeline of our sun turning into a red giant and then later into a white dwarf,
o
The science of this sad
process,
o
What will happen to the outer
solar system during the early part of this process?
o
Where can we go to
escape the pending disaster?
o
Can we move the planet
away from the sun as it gets hotter and hotter?
o
Propose and explain a
time line to evacuate the planet,
o
The technologies
needed to successfully save the human race.
The poster must have
a visible title and must clearly
indicate the two topics the student
