Department of Nursing

Annual Health Fair

Background Information

Each spring the Department of Nursing collaborates with 9 Health Fair, a non for profit organization that provides support for health fairs throughout the state of Colorado, to plan and implement a health fair for the city of Pueblo, Colorado.

How It Works

A Community Health Faculty Member serves as site coordinator for the health fair.  Each level of nursing student is required to be involved in the health fair in some capacity.

Senior nursing students plan and implement the health fair.  In the fall semester as part of their their community health nursing class, they are divided into committees and given guidelines for committee planning tasks.  These committees include medical, non-medical, facilities, laboratory and publicity.  Two students are also chosen to act as student site coordinators and act as liason with the committee chairs.   In the spring semester during their management nursing course, implementation of the health takes place with collaboration of those same committees.

Junior nursing students observe for validity and reliability at one of the screening stations.  They are also involved with data collection and analysis.

Sophmore nursing participate as screeners for the stations that are supervised by senior students.

Other screeners and educational centers are obtained from the community by the medical and non-medical committees.

9 Health Fair is responsible for any follow-up that is necessary.  They provide the health fair protocol, screening forms and most supplies required by the screening stations.
