Program Status
Due to the small number of graduating seniors and the financial constraints inposed on the university, this program is being phased out. Starting with the fall semester 2005, no new freshmen students are accepted. Continuing students are placed on slightly modified schedules, taylored to each student, to allow their speedy completion of the graduation requirements.
New students interested in the major are encouraged to explore alternative programs. The CET program provides an opportunity for students with an interest in hands-on work to follow their inclination in surveying, construction and subdivision layout. Students looking for a curriculum with a strong grounding in mathematics and the sciences should look at the engineering program with Mechatronics specilization. This new program brings together elements of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering to solve problems in automation and robotics.

History
The Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program evolved from a two-year vocational drafting program when the institution was a community college. The program was expanded to the baccalaureate degree level in 1969-70 as "Mechanical Design" under Industrial Technology. MET became a free-standing BS degree granting program in 1974. The program received initial ABET accreditation in 1978.
In the Mid-1980s, three technology programs (MET, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Metallurgical Engineering Technology) were combined by transferring selected courses into an expanded Mechanical Engineering Technology program as it exists today.
