If you answered yes to these questions, then check out the wonderful opportunities that await you in the exciting career field of...  Facility Management

As a Facility Manager (FM), you'll never be bored.  You'll direct and guide skilled co-workers in a wide variety of important and meaningful assignments and challenges - it's not the same old grind day after day.

You'll be a key member of your firm's decision making process - you can make a difference in the way things get done. You can help make other people's lives more enjoyable and productive and take pride in those accomplishments.

So what do Facility Managers do?  Facility Managers make sure the organization's workspaces and customer areas best support the people who help the organization succeed.  Typical facilities include office, laboratory, manufacturing, retail, educational and recreational complexes.

Facility Management combines the most interesting aspects of business administration, architecture and technology together with behavior science.

Facility Managers use their knowledge of building systems and management techniques to insure the organization successfully accomplishes its goals and objectives.

You'll coordinate and direct a team of specialists like architects, engineers, communications experts, trades and crafts people and others as they strive to achieve high levels of performance and customer satisfaction.

Some typical Facility Manager responsibilities include:

    • Planning interior spaces
    • Coordinating architectural design projects
    • Constructing or renovating facilities
    • Supervising building operations and maintenance
    • Integrating telecommunications systems
    • Budgeting and finance
    • Managing real estate assets
    • Strategic and tactical planning
    • Deploying security and other administrative services

Facility Managers have many diverse job responsibilities with opportunities throughout the United States and around the world.  A typical FM manages an average of 2.7 million square feet (an area larger than 62 football fields), leads a facilities team averaging 38 skilled people and administers a significant portion of the company's annual expenditures (up to $6,000 per employee).

Entry level positions generally pay from $27,000 to $52,000 annually.  In 1998, the average salary for facility management professionals was $64,000 while top facilities director and executive salaries ranged from $81,000 to over $200,000.
