I. Course Overview

Practical application of principles of supervision designed to prepare persons who are or intend to become supervisors in business, industry, government, or service jobs including:

  1. An overview of the role of the supervisor

  2. A detailed look at each of many of the jobs that supervisors perform

II. Course Objectives

After completing the course, students will have a basic understanding of and be able to effectively demonstrate entry-level skills in:

  1. Defining and understanding the supervisor's job

  2. Organizing and delegating work

  3. Understanding the organizational structure

  4. Understanding and performing the functions of supervision

  5. Knowing how to improve communication skills, such as interpersonal, organizational and "Top Brass"

  6. Handling conflict and supervising individual employees

  7. Motivating and appraising employees

  8. Supervising groups in making a commitment

  9. Working in the environment of a supervisor

III. Instructional Activities

Students will make progress toward meeting the objectives, competencies and outcomes of the course through rigorous critical thinking and by:
