All department faculty hold advanced
degrees in their respective teaching areas, and our Clinical Instructors
are ATC certified. All faculty are active professionally at state,
regional, and national levels. Several faculty work with Olympic sport
national governing bodies. The department emphasizes the
student-centered approach to learning with hands-on, experiential
opportunities.

Dr.
Carol Foust studied at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque
where she earned a B.S. School Health Education, with a minor in
Biology and an M.S. in Community Health. A Ph.D. in Health
Education from Texas A&M University was completed in 1993 and an
M.Ed. in Counseling from Lamar University was completed in 1996. Dr.
Foust is also a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is currently
Professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise Science, Health
Promotion and Recreation at Colorado State University-Pueblo. She
has made 68 peer reviewed presentations and has authored more than
20 peer reviewed publications including a Wellness textbook. In
addition, she was the principal investigator, grant writer or a
project member on 22 grants totaling more than $3.3 million. She is
currently the Project Evaluator on the Steps to a Healthier Pueblo
grant and is directing three additional grants focused on diabetes
prevention. Type 2 diabetes is a significant health problem in
Pueblo Colorado and the grants Dr. Foust directs serve adults and
teens in the general community and in faith based settings | |

Laura Clark studied at the Pennsylvania State
University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Health
Education-Athletic Training. She completed her
master’s degree at the University of Arizona in Athletic Training.
Laura has been a
NATABOC certified athletic trainer since 1986.
She has worked at Lehigh University, the University of
Pittsburgh, Quincy University, Quincy Medical Group, Western
Illinois University and several high schools. She
has been an instructor in accredited Athletic Training programs for
14 years. Laura’s hobbies are
crafts of any kind (rubber stamping especially), cycling and all
types of sports. | |

Dr. Roger Clark
studied at the University of Illinois-Urbana where he earned his
undergraduate degree in Physical Education-Athletic
Training. He completed his masters degree at the
University of Arizona in Athletic Training. He
completed his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh in Exercise
Physiology/Athletic Training. His dissertation
was titled: Effects of cyrotherapy and compression treatment
protocols on pain and functional signs of delayed-onset muscle
soreness.
Dr.
Clark has been a NATABOC certified athletic trainer since
1985. He has worked in the high school, clinic
and Division I athletics settings as a certified athletic
trainer. He has been a director of an athletic
training education program since 1994, at Quincy University-Quincy,
Illinois (1994-1996) and Western Illinois University-Macomb,
Illinois (1996-2002). While at WIU the athletic
training education program transition from an NATA approved program
to a CAAHEP accreditation program. Dr. Clark has
been a Site Visitor since 2001, for the Joint Review Committee on
Athletic Training (JRC-AT). He came to CSU-Pueblo
in 2002 as the Director of the Athletic Training Education
Program. His research interests include
delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), cryotherapy, and athletic
training education.
Dr.
Clark’s hobbies are building and flying radio controlled model
airplanes, cycling and playing acoustic guitar.

Having received both her undergraduate degree
and athletic training education from New Mexico State University,
Colleen completed her Masters of Science in Education at Northwest
Missouri State University. Returning to New Mexico State University
she was a member of the Athletic Training staff and taught in the
Athletic Training Education Program for six years. Colleen has been a Certified
Athletic Trainer since 1991 and joined the CSU-P faculty in
2001. Her hobbies include plying volleyball, softball, and
golf as well as spending time with her husband, daughter, and two
beagles. | |

Dr. Dallam studied at both the University of Arizona, where
he obtained his bachelors degree in Physical Education with a minor
in Biology and Masters in Exercise and Sport Sciences, and at the
University of New Mexico where he obtained his doctorate in Physical
Education with an emphasis in exercise physiology and split minor in
physiology and statistics.
Dr. Dallam joined the ExHPR faculty at
CSU-Pueblo in 1998 as the academic core instructor in the EXHP
program. Since that time he has taught a wide variety of
courses including: Exercise Physiology and Laboratory, Kinesiology,
Program Administration in Physical Education and Recreation, First
Aid, Exercise Leadership, Personal Health, Personal Health
Laboratory, Exercise Assessment and Programming, Measurement and
Evaluation, Behavior Facilitation, and Drugs and Healthy Lifestyles.
Dr. Dallam's most recent research interests have
centered on triathlon related studies and diabetes prevention.
He is currently project manager for a grant funded and worksite
based diabetes prevention program located in Pueblo. The
project staff consists of both graduates of the CSU-Pueblo Health
Promotion program and current interns in the
program. Dr. Dallam is also the former
USA Triathlon National Teams Coach (1996-1997). He has
continued to apply his sport science interests by coaching a small
number of elite triathletes, including 2000 U.S. Olympian and 2003
Pan American Games Gold Medalist Hunter Kemper. Students in
his exercise physiology classes have been active participants in
both research projects and applied hyperoxic training sessions at
the Olympic Training Center Sports Science and Technology laboratory
in Colorado Springs. His personal

Dr. Rochester has an Ed.D. in Physical Education from the
University of Northern Colorado, her M.S. in Physical Education from
Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and her B.S. in Education,
Health and Physical Education(K-12) from Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. She teaches and advises the Physical Education K-12
majors. Research interests include: youth development through
physical activity, in particular opportunities for high-risk youth.
She also studies curriculum reform. Her hobbies include at least 17
outdoor activities, especially hiking, climbing and biking. Her personal

Darrin has studied at both Concordia
University-Mequon where he obtained bachelor's degrees in athletic
training and physical education K-12, and Western Illinois
University where he obtained his Master's degree in physical
education with an emphasis in exercise science.
He became a board certified athletic trainer in
2000 and has practiced in both high school and collegiate settings.
Darrin has served as an assistant professor / assistant athletic
trainer for CSU's department of EXHPR since January 2004. In
May of 2004, he obtained certification as a performance enhancement
specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. His
research interests include the application of functional exercise as
it relates to the rehabilitation of kinetic chain joint
dysfunction. |

Dr. Stuyt studied at both the University of
Wageningen, Holland where he obtained his Bachelor’s and
Master's degrees in Leisure studies, and at Texas A&M
University where he obtained his Doctorate in Recreation
Resources Management. Dr. Stuyt joined the EXHPR faculty at
CSU-Pueblo in 1999 as academic instructor in the Recreation
program. The courses he has taught include: Introduction to
Recreation, Recreation Program Design, Leadership &
Ethics, Teaching Experiential Education in the Outdoors,
Commercial Recreation & Tourism, Outdoor Resources and
Management, Administration of Recreation, Practicum, Seminar,
and Internship. He also
teaches in the President's Leadership Program (PLP), a
scholarship funded minor.Dr. Stuyt most recent research interests
deal with high climate change as it affects participation in
sports and recreation, and knowledge of global warming, its
causes and ways to reduce its effects. Dr. Stuyt is also a reviewer for grants
by Greater Colorado Outdoors, an active member of the National
Park & Recreation Association and its Colorado chapter.
His hobbies include sailing, wind surfing, cross country
skiing, horseback riding and wine

She was born in Wichita, Kansas and has been working for
the State of Colorado system since 1990. First at Pueblo Community
College, she moved to the University of Southern Colorado in 1995
and was employed in the Bookstore, the International Programs
Office, Records Office, and currently works in the Department of
Exercise Science, Health Promotion and Recreation. Her smile and
sense of humor are contagious and her vast experience makes life
easier for the entire department. In her spare time, Pam likes to
sightsee, especially in Colorado; spend time with (grand)kids,
putter around the house, garden, sew crafts. Pam met her husband
Cecil in the military; Cecil retired from the military after 24
years and now teaches in the JROTC program at South High School.
They have three children and two
grandchildren. | |
