Careers for graduates include those that provide instruction to individuals or groups who wish to pursue leisure time outdoor activity that is risk related. These activities are intrinsically motivating, lead to self-discovery, and their outcomes must be uncertain. Examples of activities include rock climbing, ropes-courses, backpacking, camping, skiing, and horseback riding. In addition to work with the government, private agencies including companies such as Outward Bound, the National Outdoor Leadership School, Scouting, and Back Road Adventures, are viable employment options. Jobs also exist in University and College Outdoor Departments and with various adventure-based therapeutic recreation programs. Multiple certifications may be obtained, including Wilderness Education Association, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and Technical Rescue.
