Our graduates have found employment opportunities with federal, state and local governments from the National Parks Service to community recreation centers. This option prepares you for work with several organizations, including community education and recreation, the cultural arts, employee services, event and facility management, and military recreation. Private clubs use our majors as staff, as do college campus recreation centers, resorts, and senior centers—which can be surprisingly active. Your local YMCA, YWCA and specialized travel organizations have a need for recreation professionals. Youth centers and youth programs are growing in numbers. National certification for Certified Park & Recreation Professional is available to graduates through the National Recreation & Park Association, as is Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification through the National Council for TR Certification, based on a cooperative agreement with Metro State College in Denver. A minor in Fitness & Recreational Sport Management is available to other majors as an option.
